Around twenty-five thousand residences in southeastern Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday morning after intense storm systems impacted the area, generating powerful gusts reaching 109km/h.

Large Hailstones and Extensive Destruction

Residents reported substantial frozen pellets measuring up to seven centimeters in particular locations. Meteorological experts verified that multiple regions across the state had been affected by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were working to restore electricity service throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews working to handle the widespread outages.

State Emergency Services received 598 requests for assistance across the area, primarily for building damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

• Wyndham region - nearly 180 calls for assistance

During the peak on Sunday, in excess of 28k electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Moist weather were expected to linger along large portions of the state's eastern regions this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with continued thunderstorm potential predicted across various areas of both areas.

Safety Concern

Medical authorities warned that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
