Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
